On-Our-Shelves Sunday

This week we have a new one to us on our shelves:

The Firekeeper’s Son

by Linda Sue Park

As we were reading this story together, all I could think about was the scene in the Lord of the Rings movie when the beacons were lit. One was lit and triggered a chain reaction across the lands. All the mountain tops had one.

This is the same principal, only instead of lighting it when there was trouble, it was the job of the lightkeepers to light the bonfire when all was well.

This is a great read about a very real tradition, told in a beautiful way.

What is on YOUR shelves today?

  1. We haven’t read that one. But what you’re describing reminds me of how they light the torches on the Great Wall of China to tell of an intruder. Was pretty amazing to be there and see it ourselves when we adopted Sam! 🙂

      1. they didn’t light them when we were there (I don’t think they do that anymore), but just seeing the great wall was awesome!
