Remember the Fiona outfit that I made from The Secret of Roan Inish the other day?

Well, here is another character from that excellent film.

eamon6mThere aren’t too many photos of this character {on the internet}, unfortunately, but he is Fiona’s cousin, Eamon.

eamonpicHis clothing, unlike Fiona’s, run a bit too large on him. He wears suspenders and a large belt cinched at his waist to keep his enormous pants on. It is almost as if he is trying to fill the clothes of someone who is older. He and Fiona fix up the cottages on the beach with his knowledge of roofing and carpentry. Eamon also earns his living by fishing with his Grandfather. A most impressive young character.

eamonmAgain I enlisted my youngest DAUGHTER to pose as a boy {which she doesn’t mind, at all, actually}. I think she’s pretty darn cute no matter what I dress her in.

I made a Newsboy cap using this pattern out of grey felt and lined it with black cotton. I wanted to be able to shape it easily and the felt was stiff enough to mimic the shape of a fisherman’s cap.

eamon3mI made her the pants out of an old pair of my husband’s using no elastic or buttons! I added belt loops to hold to belt in place, and then attached the {thrifted and altered} suspenders on the inside. The belt was also thrifted but way too big for my small-waisted girl, so I punched some more holes and cut off the excess.

eamon11mThe sweater was my husband’s {as well} and actually had a hole right in the center of the neck. I fixed that by rolling the collar and then sewing it around the perimeter. I also had to re-size it. And tuck it into her pants. This movie is full of people who tuck their sweaters in!

sweatersbeforemI wanted to keep it a little larger, though, to stay true to the character’s costume.

eamon12mWhen we went to the beach to photograph the outfit, I noticed the old wrecked boats further down the beach {I may or may not have squealed out loud~*ahem*}. We ran for them. They were so perfect for this!

eamon9m

The cutest thing about this whole experience was the fact that my sweet little girl {dressed as a boy} thought she would actually catch a fish with her rope. *sigh*

eamon5mThis one was a very fun one to sew for and even more fun to photograph! I love that everything she is wearing was thrifted and then re-purposed.

eamon13mFor my next character, my husband asked if he should don a curly black wig, strip down nude, and run up and down the beach. Tempting, but I think that may be taking it a bit too far. Ha!

Two down. One to go!
