This week’s Project Run and Play challenge was to take a Men’s button-down shirt and transform it into something wearable for your child.

I decided to take a thrifted flannel Men’s XXL shirt and make a few things for Falafel.

First I will say that I am amazed at how much I got out of one shirt! There was very little left over, and a lot was a tight squeeze, but in the end she has an outfit that is very plaid and very fun.

I started with making a pair of pants out of the sleeves. I used the existing cuffs for the bottom of the pants.

I also added the shirt pocket (which I seam ripped off) to the front.

Next, I made a shirt using the existing collar and button placket. I added sweet little puffy sleeves and a ruffle at the bottom,

Here’s a close-up of the ruffle.

I even had enough fabric left over for a hair clip (to go in her newly cut hair), and a sassy little (self-drafted) hat.

We even used the hair clip on the hat!

plaid5mIs there such a thing as too much plaid? I didn’t think so.

She asked me to photograph her lamb on her head.

Oh that child.

Have you ever tried to re-purpose an old shirt?
