Over at Project Run and Play, the theme is “Love is in the Air“. The challenge is to come up with an outfit inspired by Valentine’s Day.

Here is mine!

valy6mI have wanted to make an all linen outfit for quite sometime, and this was the perfect opportunity!

valytree2mThe dress is a loose fitting tunic that I drafted my own pattern for. I added a peter pan collar to the neckline {this was my first time drafting and sewing a collar onto a dress! Woohoo!}.

valycollarmI love how it adds a little girly girlness to the outfit.

valybackmI put a little heart button and loop closure for the back, along with a heart{ish} cut out to add some interest.

valyfrontmA sweet ruffle along the angled bottom? A giant pocket for treasures?

YES. Emphatically.

valy9mNext, I took more delicious linen, in turquoise {because I just love red and turquoise together *sigh*} and whipped up some loose-legged pants.

valypantsm2On this over-sized pocket, I used some red linen for the heart, and scribble-sewed around it for a very handmade sweet look.

valy12mTo complete this casual, fun, bohemian-esque outfit, I made up a headband with the same kind of scrappy heart scribbled on, and some velcro to close it in the back. I also cinched both sides with yarn {so she looks a little less “Karate kid” -heh}.

valypointmAnything with a headband is a plus with her.

valywalkmI love how old-fashioned it seems.

valyprettymOh those eyes!

valyclimbmWe had so much fun with this. Making and photographing.
