Project Run and Play’s theme this week is Sewing for the Boy, and I jumped on a project {ahem…or two hundred} for the brand new little friend about to be born (that I wrote about here and here and here).

boygroupmI made little felted booties here, two fleece hats (why make one when you can make two?), and a little romper made with this pattern from Shwin&Shwin.

boyjumpmI changed the pattern to suit my comfort level, though. I really liked the gathering in the back, so I also made it in the front. I switched up the interior and exterior fabrics (the exterior is actually a pillowcase!) to give it a fun and funky look. I used snaps for the straps as well (not just to close the crotch).

overclosebuttonmI also decided to fully line the whole thing. This was my first experience with facing, and I discovered (after doing a muslin) that I prefer to just make a lining. Much less fussy.

Sewing for boys is so fun! While I love sewing for my girls, it is nice to take it in a different direction once in a while.

What have YOU sewn today?
