This Summer, we are expecting guests! My husband’s sister and her family will be coming for a visit, and for the first time ever, we actually have two bathrooms! We are fixing up the girls’ bathroom for our guests to use.
Since they have young children, I came up with a project so the little ones can reach the towels themselves.
Towel Bar Extender Tutorial

*OK I really need to come up with a better name, but here it is anyway*
First gather your supplies:
Dowel Rod (I used an old closet bar)
drill
rope or cording
carabiner clip
bucket or basket
saw (if needed)

The first step is to cut the dowel rod the same length as your existing towel bar. Then drill a hole at either end of the dowel rod. I drilled mine 2″ in from either side.

Next, cut two pieces of cord the same length as each other (however long you want it to hang, plus a few inches for knotting). When I cut mine, it began to unravel, so I taped the ends in order to make it easier to thread.

Thread an end through the hole in the dowel rod and knot it. Repeat with the other side.

Grab the top ends of the cords and knot them together. It should look like a big triangle now.

Thread the carabiner clip through the knot and pull tightly.

Put that aside, and pick up the bucket. For mine, I decided to use a sturdy galvanized bucket. I drilled a hole in the back so it could hang. If you use a basket, you can skip this step.

Hook the carabiner clip onto the bucket (don’t forget to trim any unsightly dangly cord) and you are done!

The whole thing clips onto the towel bar so you can place towels for adults up high, and the little ones can still reach their own.

Decorate and fill with what ever you would like!

I also thought of nice little touches to make them feel at home (if only for a week). I added a step stool, some bars of soap, tooth brushes and paste, as well as some flowers.

I think we are ready!

Great idea Michelle! The flowers look lovely in the bathroom too – I’m sure your guests will appreciate all your efforts
