My older daughter gets an idea in her head (and usually I have no idea where it comes from), but she just has to follow it through.
She came to me with elastic and tulle and asked for some quick advice, then headed off to her room.
When she came back, she had made this!
A Tiny Tutu for her American Girl doll.
First, I must tell you that this is truly all her doll. She saved up a few years ago and bought it with her own money. Since then she has taken full responsibility for it, and even made some clothes. This was one of The Bee’s very first lessons in earning something the hard way, and then appreciating it oh so much more because of it.
Anyhow, back to this Tutu.
She hand-stitched on stars and a little charm. Brilliant.
I was so taken with her little project that I decided to do a small tutorial so that you can make one too for all those well-deserving dolls in your life.
Tiny Tutu Tutorial
So you start with a strip of elastic that is the exact measurement (or even a little smaller) than the dolls middle. Then sew it into a band.
Take a length of tulle and fold in half. Then take the top loop and hold in the back of the elastic.
Flip up the bottom tails, and push through the loop.
Pull the ends down and push the knot on the top close together.
Repeat until it is all filled up! Trim if you need to.
Please let me know if any of you (or your children) try this.
Even dollies need to get fancy every now and then too.
