Once upon a Thread: The Seven Silly Eaters

If you stopped by yesterday, then you know all about No Big Dill’s Once Upon Thread sew along that is going on now.

For the first project I made an outfit based on one of our all time favorite books “Zen Shorts” by Jon J Muth.

Today, I will share my second project from another really great children’s book:

This is one book that Mamas can relate to!

Mary Ann Hoberman tells this charming tale (in rhyme, no less) that will hit home with parents that will do anything for their children, even if it absolutely exhausts them. Kids love it too for the pure silliness of eating just one food for every meal.

My project is an interactive apron (with the same tablecloth fabric as in the book). On top, I painted the Mama (looking slightly frazzled) with a pocket full of (felt)food.

And I painted her lovable brood on the bottom. Each with a pocket to put their favorite food in.

Here’s a close up of the food.

This was a fun project to do, and Falafel is having a blast matching which food goes with what picky eater. We have read it enough times that she knows what every child eats (even if the paintings aren’t exact because I free-handed them, I did them in order so she can figure it out).

I hope you enjoyed this project as much as I did making it…

And as much as she enjoyed playing with it, too!

  1. Love Love Love this book (I’m one of seven, so a little nostalgia, I guess!) and your apron is so fabulous. Wish my boys were a little smaller to enjoy one like it. Great job!!!
